Runway of Power started as a weekend project: world leaders walking a fashion runway in impossible outfits, staged like a real fashion show. I came up with the idea and made the film from start to finish. I chose the leaders and outfits, generated the images, animated them, and edited them together.
Every shot had to be clear at a glance, so people got the joke before they wondered how it was made. Each leader had to stay recognizable while the clothes got absurd. Cutting it to the pace of a runway show helped the shots hang together as one film.
I made it in 2024 with Midjourney for the images and Luma for the video. Together they were realistic enough to keep each person's likeness, however ridiculous the clothing got.
It went viral on Reddit and other platforms, which I didn't expect, and then Elon Musk reposted it on X. The video passed 150 million views and is one of the most widely seen things I've made.
High time for an AI fashion show.
